Siapa Gog (Ya'juj) dari Tanah Mogog (Ma'juj)?
|
| (Who is Gog from the Land of Mogog?) |
| |

| |
| “Gog” the leader of the “Mogog” is identified by the prophet Ezekiel (chapter 38) as the one who leads the war against Israel and Jerusalem. Many suggestions have been offered over the years as to the identity of “Gog from the land of Mogog”. Some sources identify Mogog with Germania, a region of ancient Europe east of the Rhine & north of the Danube (Targum Yonathan on I Chronicles 1:5). Others identify them with the Goths (Yerushalmi, Megillah I :9). These were a Teutonic people who migrated to Scythia, in what is now southern Russia. Other sources note that Mogog may denote the Mongols, whose very name may be a corruption of Mogog. Indeed, Arab writers referred to the Great Wall of China as the “wall of al Mogog”. There are other suggestions as well. |
| |
| However, according to the Talmud (the most important source of post-Biblical Jewish knowledge), the entire discussion regarding the identity of Gog and Mogog is irrelevant. |
| |
| In tractate Sanhedrin (94,a) the Talmud reveals: “G-d, blessed be He, wished to appoint Hezekiah (King of Judah in 562 BCE) as the Messiah, and Sennacherib (King of the Assyrian Empire) as Gog and Magog”. The Talmud goes on to explain why this plan did not materialize. |
| |
| It is clear from the Talmud that Mogog is not a specific nation. At the time of Redemption, whenever that may be, a given nation will take on the identity of Mogog, regardless of its particular name or local. So how do we identify Gog and Mogog in our day? |
| |
| Mogog Identified |
| |
| The key to this secret was revealed by the great and holy mystic, Rabbi Issac Luria (Safed, Israel 1534-1572), the most eminent of all kabbalists. His word is the undisputed final word amongst all Jewish sages in every part of the world for almost 500 years. He is said to have studied with the prophet Elijah on a daily basis. He is known as “The Holy Ari of Blessed Memory.” |
| |
| The Ari revealed the following: The words “GogUMogog” have the numeric value of 70 [3+6+3+6+40+3+6+3]. (In Hebrew there are no numerals to express numbers. Numbers are represented using the letters of the Hebrew alphabet, with each letter representing a number corresponding to its place in the alphabet. Thus every Hebrew word has a numeric value.) Seventy is the number of nations mentioned in the Bible (Genesis 10). In Jewish writings, reference is frequently made to the 70 non-Jewish nations of the world. (The fact that there are close to 200 independent nations today is not relevant, as a group of politically independent countries may be considered one nation. For example, 21 Arab countries are only one nation). This alludes to the fact that Gog from Mogog is the head of the super power which dominates the 70 nations of the world. |
| |
| The Ari has thus clearly and unequivocally identified Mogog as the super-power of the world. He has uncovered the mystery. Mogog is none other then this blessed country of ours, the United States of America, and “Gog” is its president. |
| |
| The prophet Ezekiel sees Gog and Mogog coming from “the distant north”. Scholars therefore went looking for “The Land of Mogog” in Turkey or Russia. |
| |
| They were mistaken. The Bible's reference points to determine “the distant north” is different then those commonly employed. As this is a very important point, allow me to elaborate. |
| |
| True “North” |
| |
| As the world is a globe, any point can be designated as the top or the furthest north, after which one would be considered moving south. The same, of course applies to east and west. Greek geographers divided the globe into northern, southern, eastern and western hemispheres. They fixed the Equator as zero latitude and the Northern and Southern poles as the earth's extremities, because the earth rotates on its northern-southern axis. These boundaries are arbitrary. |
| |
|
The earths axis is actually tilted 23.5º away from a line perpendicular to the plane of its orbit around the sun. Other planets in our solar system are tilted at different angles. Uranus rotates on its side like a top rolling on its side. Obviously then, the poles of a planet's axis of rotation are not, in and of themselves, an intrinsic demarcation between north and south.
|
|
|
|
(The dividing point between east and west is completely arbitrary, and was not fixed until 1884. At the behest of the President of the United States of America 41 delegates from 25 nations met in Washington, DC, for the International Meridian Conference. They agreed to set the Prime Meridian at the Observatory in Greenwich.)
|
|

|
|
|
| However from the Torah's perspective the boundaries between north and south (as well as east and west) are elsewhere. |
| |
| In Genesis 45:9 after Josef reveals his identity to his brothers, he instructs them: “Hurry, go up to my father and say to him, ‘So says your son Josef, G-d made me master over all Egypt. Come down to me - do not delay.' ” |
| |
| Rashi comments that the word V'Alu, go up, is used to describe the journey to Eretz Yisrael, because Eretz Yisrael is higher than all other lands. This assertion is based on the Talmud (Kiddushin 69a and elsewhere). |
| |
| The Talmud derives the fact "the Land of Israel is the highest of all lands" from a Deuteronomy 17:8, which states, “You shall arise and go up, to the place that G-d, shall choose”. |
| |
| Maharsha (R' Shmuel Eliezer Eidels, Poland 1555-1632, who authored one of the most important commentaries to the Talmud) explains that the Talmud is not referring to the height of the land in relation to sea level. The Land of Israel does not posses the highest mountain range. Rather the Talmud is fixing the Land of Israel at the top of Earth's sphere. Thus, traveling from anywhere to the Land of Israel is viewed as an ascent. |
| |
|
Similarly we find in Hosea (2:2): “The Childen of Judah and Israel will gather together, appoint a leader for themselves (i.e., the messiah), and go up from the land (i.e., the lands of their exile).” Here too we see that scripure considers the Land of Israel as the top of the world, so that anyone coming from anywhere in the world is going “up”.
|
|
|
 |
|
|
|
The location of the Land of Israel at the centre of the world is based on another tradition, namely that the creation of the earth began from the Even Hashisiya, the Foundation Stone located in the holiest part of the Temple (Talmud Yoma 54b, Midrash Tanchuma, Pekudei 3).
|
| |
|
| |
| This is the stone that is presently under The Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount. ( According to the Kabbalists the Foundation Stone is not only the center of this planet, but it is the centre of the all reality . See Sefer Yetzira 4:4. This will be developed at length when we discuss the secret of Jerusalem) |
| |
 |
| |
| [Note: Our discussion here pertains to the location of the boundaries of north and south. Placing the Land of Israel at the centre of the Earth also has ramifications on the east - west boundaries. Indeed most prominent Rabbinic experts on Biblical geography place the Prime Meridian as going through the Even Hashisiya. Thus the international date line would be 180 degrees from Eretz Yisrael which is at the 144th meridian west (going through Alaska). See for example, here and here for more details on the Halachic Date Line.] |
| |
| In fact, in the very place where Ezekiel shares his vision about Gog and his armies coming from “the distant north” (Ezekiel 38:6, 39:2), he also places Israel at “the navel,” i.e., the center, of the earth (ibid. 38:12). Thus, the prophet himself gives us the “key” to locate the region he considers “the distant north.” |
|
|
| - For if the Torah considers the Land of Israel as being at the centre of the Earth, there are only two possibilities to determine the Earth's northern extremity. |
| |
| The circumference of the Earth is about 25,000 miles. We can ignore the spherical shape of the Earth and look at it as a flat pancake. Isreal is in the centre and the world extends 12,500 miles in each direction. Heading north from Israel we would consider the next 12,500 miles “north” until we reach the point directly opposite Jerusalem. That point would be the northern end of the world. As Jerusalem is located on the 31st parallel north, this area would extend until the 31st parallel south, in the Pacific Ocean (near New Zealand). At that point we would be entering territory considered south of Jerusalem. In this scenario the entire United States would be considered “north” of Jerusalem . |
| |
|
Another, perhaps more logical possibility, is to consider each hemisphere independently. If the Land of Israel is in the centre of upper hemisphere we would consider “north” for 6,250 miles. Amazingly the distance from Jerusalem until the city of Kodiak, Alaska on the southern end of the state is 6,247 miles! Thus from a Torah point of view, there is no question that the entire state of Alaska is indeed to be considered in the “distant north” of Eretz Yisroel.
|
|
 |
| |
 |
| |
| However, the question begs to be asked. Why are we designating either the entire U.S.A., or the State of Alaska as being north of Jerusalem and not west? |
| |
| Here we find another amazing phenomenon. Logic would dictate that in determining the relationship between two areas on a globe, we would set the direction based on the shortest distance. |
| |
|
The distance between Jerusalem and northern Alaska (the furthest northern state of America) is practically identical to the distance between Jerusalem and eastern Main (the furthest eastern state of America). They are both 5,300 miles away! Hence from a physical perspective the U.S. is both north and west of Jerusalem.
|
| |
 |
| |
| However from a metaphysical perspective, America's role as Mogog corresponds to its northern character. (In the Kabbalah the link between Esau/Edom and the Left/North is extensively developed. In fact in the Bahir, one of the oldest and most important of all classical kabbalah texts (written in the first century by Rabbi Nechuniah ben HaKana), “north” is identified as the source of all evil (chapter 163 in Rabbi Kaplan's edition ). For this reason, the prophet as well, focuses on the northern connection of Mogog. |
| |
| We find a similar phenomenon regarding ancient Babylon. |
| |
|
Babylon was about 500 miles east of Jerusalem, but only about 50 miles north. Clearly we would consider Babylon east of Jerusalem, not north. Indeed, throughout the Babylonian Talmud, the sages refur to the Land of Isreal as “Ma'arava”, the “West.” Yet when G-d informed Jeremiah about the impending destruction of Israel by the hands of Babylon, the prophet is told (Jeremiah 1:14), “Out of the north the evil shall come forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.” (See Talmud, Bava Basra 25b).
|
| |
 |
| |
| Here too we are to understand this from a metaphysical perspective. Although from a geographic perspective Babylon is essentially east of Jerusalem. From an inner spiritual perspective, it is it's northern dimension which is the primary sourse of its destructive power against Israel. |
| |
| Spiritual “North” |
| |
| There is another interesting link between America and the “north”.The Kabbalists reveal that the two world religions, Christianity and Islam, are each linked to opposite directions. Christianity is represented by the “North” or the “left” when facing East. Islam is connected to the “South” or the right side. (The explanation of this correlation is beyond the scope of this letter). Incidentally, that is why, the Christians celebrate Sunday which is to the “left” of the Jewish Shabbat. And the Moslems celebrate Friday, which corresponds to the “right” side. |
| |
| Thus, when the prophet Daniel reveals that “at the time of the End, the king of the south will engage the forces of the north” (Daniel 11:40), he is prophesizing that America, a predominantly Christian nation will be drawn into military confrontation with Islamic countries (Afghanistan, Iraq etc.). |
| |
| Why is America in Iraq? |
| |
| There is also another aspect to America's “northern connection”. |
| |
| We can safely assume that G-d brought the U.S.A. to Iraq to rid the world of the final incarnation of the evil Nebuchadnezzar. But now that the Americans are stationed in Iraq, they are quite literally “North” of Jerusalem even according to the common designation of “north”. (Interestingly, the US is stationed in the northern part of Iraq. Southern Iraq which is east of Jerusalem is occupied by the British and the Poles.) |
| |
| I find it fascinating that the United States, whom G-d has designated as the final nation to confront Israel at the End of Days, has now occupied the very same region as ancient Babylon, the very first nation to confront and conquer the Jewish state 2,427 years ago! |
| |
| Another interesting observation is that Mogog has the Gematria (numeric value) of 52 [40+3+6+3]. The number 52 corresponds to the 50 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. |
| |
|
Indeed the U.S. has other inhabited territories: Guam (166,000), U.S. Virgin Islands (109,000), the Northern Mariana Islands (78,000), and American Samoa (58,000). However, none of these areas contain a population anywhere near that of any of the other states.
|
| |
|
| |
| In contrast, Puerto Rico's population of almost 4,000,000 is larger then more then half of the states in America. The District of Columbia's population of around 600,000 is about the same as Wyoming, North Dakota, Alaska and Vermont. |
| |
| In addition, both Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia have strong and organized movements who are pushing for statehood, whereas with the others it is a non issue. |
| |
| It is therefore very possible that in the spiritual realms, where the prophets experience their visions, the U.S. is represented by 52 distinct spiritual forces, even though from a technical and legal point of view down on Earth, 2 of the 52 are not actually “states”. |
| |
| It is also possible that in the not-so-distant future, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia will indeed be granted statehood. Although this may take a decade or two, in the spiritual worlds where things move very rapidly, it seems as if this is occurring at around the same time as the wars of GogUmogog. |
| |
| [It is important to stress the following: One can never prove anything from a Gematria or any form of Torah code. There are only 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet and therefore numerous unrelated words will share numeric values. It is only once we are certain of a specific truth, that we can then go on to add “spice and pepper” by pointing out that this particular truth which has been established, is also reflected in a Gematria or another form of code.] |
| |
| Gog Identified |
| |
| Now that we know which country is “Mogog”, we also know who the prophet is referring to by “Gog”. The president of the United States, at the time of this war is the “Gog” of Ezekiel. |
| |
| It is interesting to note that throughout the Bible leaders of nations are “kings”. Here the prophet titles the leader of Mogog as a “Nosi,” which is best translated as an elected president. The prophet knew that we would be dealing with a democratic country and an elected leader. |
| |
| The prophet calls Gog the president of Mogog, and also the leader Meshekh and Tuval. Many suggestions have been offered as to the exact identity of these two countries. I suggest that Meshekh and Tuval be translated literally. Meshekh means “to pull” or “draw” and Tuval means “the world.” The leader of Mogog is also the World leader, the one who pulls and draws the entire world to the direction he chooses. |
| |
|
George W. Bush, must be “Gog”!
|
| |
|
Interestingly, the name, George, is closely related to the Hebrew “Gog.” (The Hebrew letter “Gimmel” can be pronounced either as a soft G (J) or a hard G. In the Koran “Gog” is spelled with the Arabic equivalent of “JOJ”).
In addition, the numeric value of the first 2 letters of Mogog, Mem and Gimel, is 43, alluding to George the 43rd.
The letter “Mem” at the beginning of a word means “from”. Thus, Gog Mogog may also be hinting at George from (the son of) George.
|
|
 |
| |
| Another interesting observation: |
| |
| As mentioned earlier, the Talmud reveals that Sennacherib was poised to become “Gog”. The Kabbalists teach that they actually share the same soul. In Hebrew, both you, Gog Bush [3+6+3+2+6+300], and Sennacherib [60+50+8+200+2] share the same numeric value [320]! |
| |
| Bush agaist Israel! |
| |
| Although Bush is a strong supporter of Israel, stronger than most previous presidents of the United States, and clearly head and shoulders above every other head of state in the world, he has stopped short of publicly acknowledging the Biblical right of the Jews over Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. He have personally blocked the move of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem several times. |
| |
| He has also failed to identify and target the true culprits of the 9/11 massacre. They are obviously not the Taliban or Saddam Hussein but rather Saudi Arabia and Egypt, in whose midst the monsters who perpetrated that atrocity were born and bred. Under the watchful and dictatorial eye of both governments, venomous hatred to both Christians and Jews has been encouraged. |
| |
| Bush is unable to mouth this obvious truth, and continues to refer to these countries as US allies. |
| |
| He has made major steps in the right direction, and will continue to go further. He will most likely isolate and even possibly neutralize Iran and Syria. But as far as identifying the essential source of evil - militant Islamic fanaticism, embraced openly by hundreds of millions of Moslems worldwide, and tolerated by hundreds of millions more - he is silent. |
| |
| He is now pressuring Israel to grant the 22nd Arab Islamic state of Palestine partial sovereignty over Jerusalem and the Temple Mount as predicted by the prophet Zechariah, and complete his preordained historic role as “Gog from the land of Mogog”. |
| |
| G-d's Word to Bush |
| |
| Rabbi Shlomo Ben Yitzchok (France, 1040-1103) was one of the greatest Jewish scholars in the past 1000 years. He is known as Rashi. He wrote the most popular and authoritative commentary on the Bible. He begins his commentary with a powerful question: |
| |
| The Hebrew name for the Bible is “Torah” which means (Book of) Directives or Instruction . The primary purpose of the Torah is to teach us how to act. If so, why does the Torah include the book of Genesis? The entire book is composed of stories and historical data, beginning with the creation of the world, continuing on to the life of Noah, and then to the lives of the patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. There are practically no “Mitzvot” (directives) in the entire book?! |
| |
| Rashi's answer (which he cites from an earlier Midrashic source from the 5th century) is shocking. The entire book of Genesis was included in the Torah for one purpose. At the “End of Days” just prior to the redemption the Jews will have returned to their ancient homeland. The non-Jewish nations will then claim that the Jews are thieves who stole the land from others. In response, the Jews will produce the Book of Genesis, where G-d repeatedly assures each of the Patriarchs that the Holy Land is given to their descendants. |
| |
| The obvious question is this: Why would the non-Jewish nations be impressed by what it says in the Jewish Bible? |
| |
| The answer is equally obvious: G-d foresaw that at the “Time of the End”, the nations whose opinion matters will be lead by people who are deeply committed to the will of G-d, as expressed in the Bible. Otherwise, an entire book of the Bible would have been added for no reason . |
| |
| Which Head of State in the world really cares about what it says in the Bible? |
| |
| Which American president since Abraham Lincoln really cared about what is says in the Bible? Which president ever did, or ever will, override the State Department, the CFR, the U.N., the E.U., the Media and everyone else because of what he feels is the will of G-d expressed in the Bible? |
| |
| Think about it and you will realize why I am certain that those prophetic words written by a great Jewish sage 1500 years ago, were addressed to President George W. Bush, 43 president of the United States of America! |
| |
| Think about it. An entire book of the Bible was added by G-d and will endure for all eternity, just so that one man, leading the greatest and strongest country on earth will listen to its message at this crucial juncture in the history of man. |
| |
| “The entire land of Israel from the Jordan River, and its West Bank, until the Mediterranean and east bank (Gaza, Gush Katif), and of course, including Jerusalem, is G-d's gift to the Jews, and only the Jews.” That's the message. |
| |
| But Bush has chosen to ignore G-d and His Torah. |
| |
| Bush is ignoring G-d's word! |
| |
| Bush isypocrisy is blinding! He will even pressure Israel to give up parts of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, as the prophets clearly predicts! |
| |
| The question is: Why? |
%3 exerting pressure on Israel to relinquish significant parts of their tiny country and hand them over to unrepentant murderers. And this, while he is pursuing with uncompromising conviction those that directed their terror at the United States. The hCtr>
|
| Why is it so important to the massive combined forces of “GogUmogog” and all his allies amongst the Muslims and the Jews to keep the Temple Mount out of Jewish hands? Why is Bush together with all other Christian countries and the world media collaborating with murderers and terrorists against Jerusalem? |
| |
|
These are some of the issues we will be exploring in detail, G-d willing, on this site.
